Is MTC IDEA Fund an equity co-investment or a grant?Co-Investment Terms

IDEA Fund awards (TechLaunch, Seed Capital, Venture Capital) are direct equity co-investments (or convertible debt notes), NOT grants. MTC co-invests alongside private lead investors in exchange for equity ownership in the Missouri technology company.

What is the required matching co-investment ratio?Matching Requirements

MTC officially requires a third-party dollar-for-dollar matching private co-investment from angel investors, angel syndicates, or venture capital funds for all IDEA Fund co-investment awards.

Can out-of-state startups apply for MTC IDEA Fund capital?Eligibility

No. Applicants must be registered and headquartered in Missouri, with primary operations, executive leadership, and employment within the state.

How long does the application evaluation process take?Evaluation & Timelines

The full cycle from quarterly submission deadline to MTC Board approval and due diligence completion takes approximately 90 days. Next deadline is November 4, 2026.

What expenses can MTC co-investment funds be used for?Use of Funds

Funds must be used for technology commercialization, product development, software engineering, market validation, key hiring, and working capital. MTC capital cannot be used for debt service or real estate acquisition.
